The National Diabetes Statistics Report 2020 estimates that in 2018, nearly 88 million US adults had prediabetes -- a number for primary care clinicians to keep in mind during routine patient care. The number suggests keeping a low level of suspicion for glycemic dysregulation in patients with known risk factors for diabetes including family history, obesity, elevated cholesterol, and hypertension.
