Respiratory Tripledemic 2022-23: An Expert Recap

Podcast

William Schaffner, MD, medical director of the NFID, provides an expert recap of the 2022-2023 respiratory virus season for primary care clinicians.

Although spring has sprung and the peak months of respiratory virus circulation have passed, the 2022-2023 respiratory virus season has been a distinctive one. "Those of us who are involved with respiratory viruses like to say, for example, if you've seen one influenza season, you've seen one influenza season, because they're all distinctive, but this one was very special," said William Schaffner, MD, in a recent interview with Patient Care Online.

In episode 23 of the Patient Care Online Primary Viewpoints podcast, Dr Schaffner gives a brief update on the current respiratory virus season and shares what his top challenges have been thus far, how vaccine uptake this year compares with last year, and the important role clinicians play in keeping respiratory infection and prevention on the forefront of patients minds.

William Schaffner, MD, is medical director of the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases, professor of preventive medicine in the Department of Health Policy and professor of medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, TN.
