Transverse depressions like the one shown here appeared on all the other nails of this 68-year-old man several weeks after he had suffered a myocardial infarction. Beau lines are associated with any severe disability that temporarily interferes with the rate of nail growth, such as infectious disease or myocardial infarction. Patients can be reassured that as the nail grows out so, too, will the deformity, until it eventually resolves.
