Managing cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic syndrome on a population-wide basis requires that social determinants of health be treated like any other risk factor, according to Ndumele.

In its recent statement on prevention and management of cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome, the American Heart Association (AHA) makes strong recommendations for incorporating all that is known about the influence of social determinants of health in any screening for risk. Chiadi Ndumele, MD, PhD, MHS, is associate professor of medicine and director of obesity and cardiometabolic research in the division of cardiology at Johns Hopkins University. His research focuses on the relationship between obesity and cardiovascular disease, and particularly heart failure.
