Treating Episodic Migraine Headaches: Evidence for Drug and Nondrug Therapies

Article

Migraine headaches are a condition commonly seen in primary care. Here is a top-line look at the evidence for efficacy of the wide range of treatments available.

Which established treatments for migraine headache are supported by the strongest evidence for efficacy? Where do opioids fit, if anywhere, in the expanding list of newer therapies? Noninvasive neuromodulation sounds like a favorable alternative to pharmacologic treatment, but does it have as yet unknown adverse events?

Answers to these and other questions are provided in the following slide show. The slides provide a top-line look at the December 2020 Association for Health Care Research and Quality (AHRQ) evidence report on the efficacy of pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic therapies for acute treatment of episodic migraine in adults. Are you current?
