Obesity & Pain Management: A Primary Viewpoints Podcast

Podcast

In our latest episode, an obesity medicine physician explains the importance of a comprehensive plan to manage chronic pain in patients with obesity.

“Obesity and chronic pain are directly correlated,” said Anila Chadha, MD, family physician and obesity medicine physician at Dignity Health Medical Group in Bakersfield, California, in a recent interview with Patient Care Online. “There was a study done in the United States from 2008 to 2010 which clearly showed that there is increasing reporting of pain in patients with increasing BMI. So as the severity of obesity increases, the reporting of pain increases.”

In episode 24 of the Patient Care Online Primary Viewpoints podcast, Dr Chadha discusses the correlation between chronic pain and obesity, including the long-term effects of pain conditions for patients with obesity, common types of pain conditions associated with obesity, and how primary care clinicians should go about addressing pain with patients with obesity.

Anila Chadha, MD, is also obesity medicine director at Mercy Weight Loss Surgery Program in Bakersfield, CA.
