Three years ago, my patient sustained a burn from a hot greasespill. Biopsy has shown that the nubby areas (Figure)are live skin; however, I am unsure of how to treat thewound.

Three years ago, my patient sustained a burn from a hot greasespill. Biopsy has shown that the nubby areas (Figure)are live skin; however, I am unsure of how to treat thewound.

The area appears to be ahypertrophic scar. If a biopsyis negative for malignancy,I would suggest excision anda split-thickness skin graft followedby a pressure garment to preventhypertrophic scar formation.-- Sidney Miller, MD
